As soon as you've arrived in Warsaw and moved in your new flat/dorm, it is time to think about all the basic things you will need for the months to come, like food, clothing, homeware or toiletries, and where to buy them.
Where to start?
Fear not, for we are coming to guide you through everything related to shopping - including avoiding unnecessary overpayments.

Remember that with your student ID you are eligible for various discounts in a number of shops, restaurants etc. The best idea is to always keep it with you, wherever you go.

Groceries

There are a number of big food chain stores in Warsaw where you can stock up on all your Groceries.


Large supermarkets


Carrefour: Offers a great selection of national and international brands.

Biedronka: Another popular budget supermarket chain with lots of Polish products.

Lidl : Budget-friendly supermarket chain with a good private label selection.

Auchan: Similar range to Carrefour, known for offering competitive prices on some items.

Farmers’ markets

Several markets offer fresh, local produce throughout the week. Look for “targ” or “hala” in the name, like “Hala Mirowska” (central) or “Hala Koszyki” (trendy with international options).

Smaller grocery stores

Perfect for daily essentials or top-ups, often located in residential areas.

Home supplies & toiletries:

You can purchase stuff like towels, bed linen, furniture etc. in IKEA, Black Red White, Tiger, Home&You.



Clothes

Shopping malls: Warsaw has a few big malls, e.g. “Złote Tarasy”, “Galeria Mokotów” and “Arkadia”, which have a mix of international and Polish clothing brands.
